Senior Punjab police officers have been transferred over 'failure to stop protests of the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP)', which killed seven policemen and injured several others.
The decision was taken two days after around 60 police officers deployed on GT Road in Sadhoki, Punjab to stop protesters requested Punjab Police Inspector-General Rao Sardar to direct a probe and fix responsibility for the 'flawed security plan'.
Prime Minister Imran Khan and Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar were also reportedly irked by the police over what they considered its failure to prevent the religious party workers from leaving the provincial capital.
Reportedly, additional IG Fayyaz Ahmed has reportedly been named as the new Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) of Lahore. The notification issued on Thursday said that 12 senior officers responsible for evolving the security plan and stopping the TLP rally were transferred for failing at their job.
Those transferred include DIG operations Lahore Sohail Chaudhry and DIG investigations Shariq Jamal. They have been directed to report to the Services and General Administration Department of the Punjab government.
The CM office had said that the top brass of the Lahore police failed at three points, allowing the protestors gather. The intelligence gathering about the protestors' plan was also termed poor.
