Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari has said that he wants to hold the assembly session as per orders from the Supreme Court, but the assembly staff is not letting him proceed. "I tried to hold the session, but the assembly staff is not cooperating with me," he told media.
When asked what this delay means, he said that there could be contempt of court case against those who are trying to delay the session.
Earlier, the deputy speaker said that the session would take place today (Wednesday) at 7.30PM, after it was reported that the session has been adjourned till April 16. On Tuesday, he requested that the session be held on April 16, saying that some maintenance work was going on in the House.
But he later called the assembly session at 7.30PM today, in a late night development. However, the new announcement was denied by a spokesperson of the assembly as well as the Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q).
Earlier on Tuesday, the Supreme Court had issued a judgement noting Punjab Advocate General Ahmed Awais's assurance that the session of the provincial assembly would be held today as per the law and the Constitution.
