Former British parliamentarian of Pakistan origin Lord Nazir Ahmed has been convicted of ‘serious sexual assault’ of two children by a British court.
The 64-year old was found guilty of the sexual assault of a boy and attempted rape of a young girl. The sexual abuse occurred in the 1970s when the former MP was himself a teenager.
Although he previously denied the allegations as 'malicious fiction,' the male victim wrote in an email presented to the jury, “I have evidence against that paedophile."
The prosecution relayed in court that in 1973 and 1974, when Nazir Ahmed was 16 or 17 years old, he repeatedly attempted to rape a much younger girl. He had also assaulted a boy under the age of 11 in 1972. The abuse occurred in Rotherham, UK.
Lord Ahmed's brothers, Mohammed Farouq, aged 70, and Mohammed Tariq, aged 65, were also accused of indecent assault against the same boy, but were deemed unfit to stand trial.
Judge Mr. Justice Lavender, who is presiding over the case, will decide Lord Ahmed's sentencing on February 4. The former politician was convicted of two counts of attempted rape and one count of buggery.
Lord Nazir Ahmed resigned from his seat in the House of Lords in November 2020 after a conduct committee found that he had sexually and emotionally abused a female constituent seeking his assistance.
