Impact Of Peer Pressure and Career Choices On Students Mental Health
Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood to adulthood. It includes our emotional and psychological well-being and how we think and make or act on our choices.

Nowadays, the mental health of students is deteriorating. It is getting worse day by day. A major factor in this is career choices. Career choice is something on which one’s professional and social life depends, so one should be very keen and focused while choosing a career for themselves. Career choices should match one’s interests and abilities, else they will become a hurdle in living a stress-free and happy life.

As choosing a career has become very difficult in our society, the main reason for this is peer pressure; society’s pressure on choosing science fields. It is a well-known fact that everyone is not the same. Everyone has different minds, abilities, skills, talents and interests. If someone in the family is good at something, that does not mean that other members of the family must be good at it.

So how can we expect every student to be good or interested in selective fields? As we have a number of students in our society, so do we have a number of different minds, talents, skills and interests, so we should also have a number of different fields so that every student can choose their career path according to their choices easily.

Peer pressure while choosing a career badly affects a student’s mental health. When students choose some fields regardless of their interests, it becomes very hard for them to adjust to it. They have to struggle a lot, which leads them to live a frustrated and stressful life. Even at some point they quit.

Now let’s come to a solution about how we can get rid of this problem. How we can save student’s mental health from being damaged. The only solution is to get rid of the idea of choosing selective fields which are considered as the only fields for good professional and social life or are considered respectful. For this, students must be given career counselling from professionals.

Students must be taught about different fields and their importance so they can have better and more options to match their interests and choices.

Parents need to communicate with their children and need to learn about their interests and choices regarding their career choices so that they can help them to make their career choices instead of forcing them to choose some field regardless of their interests.

Schools and colleges should arrange career counselling sessions. Students must go on a tour of their respective departments of their interest before selecting those fields so that they can learn more about their fields. If students need time to think about choosing a career, the study gap should be normalized, because it is better to choose late than choose wrong. The idea of getting involved in a rat race, of getting successful or getting everything in a specific time period should be eliminated.

Everyone’s life is different, their plans, their struggles are different, so everyone should just focus on themselves and their goals.

As the deteriorating of student’s mental health is a big issue, keeping an eye on this issue and trying to solve this issue will lead to many advantages. When students choose their career according to their choices, they will love their work. They won’t be frustrated. When they achieve their passion for their careers, they will live stress-free lives as they won’t have a hard time adjusting to it. Choosing different fields will bring diversity in professions. Society will develop in every aspect. Working in a variety of fields will have a positive effect on the country’s economy and standards.

If the same issue keeps on going, it will keep affecting students' mental health. Society will have a number of stressed and frustrated students. They will be unpassionate graduates and unfocused students. All this will have a negative impact on society. So, the deteriorating of student’s mental health should be considered as a serious issue.
