Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) petitioned the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday to move PTI Chairman Imran Khan from Attock Jail to Adiala Jail, claiming that given his "education, habits, and social and political status", he should be given better or A-class amenities in jail.
The petition stated, "Since childhood, the petitioner is from a wealthy family, and later, due to his education, habits, and social and political status in society, he has gotten accustomed to a better mode of life. He is a graduate of Oxford University, UK, and was the captain of Pakistan's national cricket team.
According to Rule 243 read with Rule 248 of the Pakistan Prison Rules, the petitioner was entitled to A-Class amenities, taking into account his social and political standing, education, and habit of leading a better lifestyle.
Khan was detained on August 5 after being found guilty of corrupt practices in connection with the state gift depository by a district and sessions court in Islamabad, while he vigorously denies the charges.
In his ruling, Judge Humayun Dilawar stated that the allegations of misdeclaration of assets against the PTI chairman had been "proven." Khan was sentenced to three years in prison and was also ordered to pay a Rs. 100,000 fine. An arrest warrant was also issued for Khan, calling for his immediate arrest.
Khan was sent to Attock prison following his detention.
As per sources, the PTI chairman will be examined by a team of physicians over the course of two shifts.
