Competing against 198 countries, Markings has already distinguished itself by being a five-time winner since 2014 and representing Pakistan at a global platform through the premier cookbook recognition authority.

This year, ‘Flavours of the Frontier’ by Pushpa Baga, ‘Deliciously Yours’ by Lal Majid, 'Virsa: A Culinary Journey From Agra to Karachi’ by Shehar Bano Rizvi, and ‘A Taste of Pakistan in Fusio’ by Shaziah Zuberi, all published by Markings, were celebrated for their outstanding contribution to Silk Road food culture and history.

The prestigious award ceremony commemorated the diversity that enriches the region, and featured four compelling presentations by Markings Publishing and its authors who showcased their work. Atul Bagai, the son of Author Pushpa Bagai, and Kiran Aman, the CEO of Markings Publishing, shared their insights on the Flavors of the Frontier – a unique blend of Pakistani and India  recipes that bridge cultural divides, showcasing the unifying power of culinary diplomacy.

Lal Majid displayed her love for chocolate while delivering a presentation on Deliciously Yours, and shared her experience as a chocolatier in Pakistan. She delved into a brief history of chocolate and her passion for teaching young bakers to immerse themselves in the art of chocolate-making using her recipes.

Sheharbano Rizvi guided the audience through her personal journey of family traditions intertwined with the profound role of food in Pakistani cultural heritage. She reiterated the promise of heirloom recipes that has been passed down generations, now available for everyone to seek inspiration from through her book, Virsa: A Culinary Journey From Agra to Karachi.

Speaking on the occasion, CEO Kiran Aman remarked, “The Gourmand Awards are not just an award ceremony, but a vibrant opportunity to engage with the best culinary giants of the world. More than that, it is a platform which celebrates talent, a primary objective of Markings Publishing as well. Having our work with these authors nominated at the most coveted competition dedicated to food culture content is of immense pride.”

As the only independent publishing company from Pakistan that nurtures self-publishing authors, helps produce superb cookbooks and remarkable coffee table books, Markings Publishing has consistently given a platform to voices that look to explore and celebrate the rich culinary traditions of the region.
