Hindu Woman From Thar Becomes Mithi's Town Committee Member
Pakistan People's Party (PPP) has made another Hindu woman a member of the town committee, on the reserved seat, it emerged on Wednesday.

The woman — Ratu Bai Kohli — hails from Thar, and is the second woman to join the party's ranks from the desert district.

In 2018, another Hindu woman, Krishna Kumari was elected to Senate. She belongs to the remote village of Dhana Gam in Nagarparkar, Thar.

"I feel delighted, this was unthinkable for me, to reach the Senate," Kumari told The Associated Press at the time of her election.

Local govt candidates

Two days ago (June 5), the PPP nominated Murtaza Wahab as the candidate for the Karachi Administrator slot and Salman Murad for the deputy mayor seat.

The announcement was made during a presser by senior party leader Nisar Khuhro, who also named the nominees for the local body seats in Sindh — elections for which will take place on June 15.

General elections

Amidst the political turmoil and fast approaching elections, the PPP appears to be priming itself in order to make a surprising comeback in Punjab, too, the most populous federating unit that holds the key to national power.

The surest sign of this ascendancy came on June 1 with at least 25 electable from South Punjab – former MPAs and MNAs of the now dysfunctional Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) – joining PPP in Lahore.

Analysts say PPP has so far been the most accepting of PTI defectors and dissidents ahead of elections. A large number of politicians from south Punjab have clearly shifted their loyalty and more are in contact with the party’s heavyweights. PML-N, the ruling party in center, has so far not been able to net in the fresh dissidents.
