Usman T. Malik's 'Midnight Doorways' Wins Prestigious World Fantasy Award For Best Collection
In a proud moment for the country, Pakistani author Usman T. Malik's book 'Midnight Doorways: Fables From Pakistan' was awarded the prestigious World Fantasy Award for the Best Fantasy Collection.

Midnight Doorways is Usman's debut collection, and has previously had the honor of being the first Pakistani book to win the coveted Crawford Award and was nominated for the Locus and Ignyte awards.

The award ceremony took place at the World Fantasy Convention in New Orleans. The World Fantasy Convention was first started in 1975, and has been held annually ever since, with the award show at the center of the event.

Malik's friend Ahmad Siddique accepted the award on his behalf. Speaking to The Friday Times, Usman said, "I’m delighted that the World Fantasy Award jury considered a book that was published in Pakistan and was not widely available internationally. I’m honored and pleased to bring the award home."

The book was published in February 2021 by KITAB (Pvt) Ltd, and nine Pakistani artists and designers were commissioned to illustrate the stories in the book.
