Omar Khalid Khorasani, a top Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan commander, has been killed in Afghanistan.
Two other commanders of the proscribed outfit – Hafiz Daulat and Mufti Hassan – were also killed along with Omar, according to a report published by Geo News on Monday. They were traveling in a vehicle in Sharki village, near Margha, in Bermal district of Paktika province when their car hit a landmine.
Omar was considered a member of the banned organisation’s top hierarchy while Hafiz Daulat was a close trustee of the former.
Citing sources, the media house said the outlawed organisation has confirmed the targeted killings of its top brass. The three commanders were travelling from Kunar province to Burmal "for consultations", the report goes on to add. TTP intelligence chief Abdul Rashid was killed in an explosion in Afghanistan's Kunar province earlier.
The development comes after Pakistan and the banned TTP reached a deadlock in peace talks as the group refused to budge from its demand for the reversal of the merger of the erstwhile FATA with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
