Federal cybercrime authorities on Monday issued notices to a lawyer of former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan for allegedly creating a fake Facebook post attributed to an Additional District and Sessions Judge.
According to a notice, a copy of which is available with The Friday Times, states that the FIA Cybercrime Reporting Center in Islamabad is probing the alleged fake Facebook post of Additional District and Sessions Judge Humayun Dilawar.
Dilawar was the judge who sentenced Imran Khan to three years in jail on Saturday for 'corrupt practices' by deliberately concealing from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) information about the money he earned from selling items he had retained from the Toshakhana in his official asset declarations to the top poll body.
During the criminal case in the District and Sessions Court in Islamabad, Imran Khan's lawyers presented in court copies of screenshots allegedly taken from the judge's Facebook account that allegedly indicated the judge's bias against Imran Khan and his party. Recusal of the judge from the case was also sought on this basis.
The FIA was subsequently asked to conduct a forensic analysis of the impugned post. But the FIA found no evidence that the post had been made or deleted.
Subsequently, on the orders of the court, the FIA launched a probe into the fake post and issued a notice to PTI lawyer Naeem Haider Panjsota to participate in the inquiry.
The FIA has directed Panjsota to appear before them on Tuesday, February 8, at 10 am.
