May 9 Incidents: PTI Founder Imran Khan Offers Conditional Apology

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has offered a conditional apology for the huge protests and violence that took place on May 9, 2023.

He urged the release of CCTV video to confirm the involvement of PTI members in the alleged crimes.

While talking to journalists, Khan said, "If any PTI members are found guilty of participating in the events of May 9, I will apologize, expel them from the party, and ensure they face punishment."

He emphasized the importance of universal accountability, querying why only Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) is highly regarded.

"I was pulled by the Rangers, yet there appears to be no regard for Pakistan's most popular figure, both domestically and globally. Don't I deserve an apology as well?" he said.

The remarks underscore continued tensions between the PTI and state authorities, as the PTI founder continues to question the official narrative of the May 9 occurrences.

The push for openness and accountability is likely to spark additional political controversy in Pakistan.

Earlier, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director-General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), confirmed the military's firm stance on the May 9 violent demonstrations.

He stressed that anyone who participated in the rioting must be held responsible.
