PMLN Stalwart Mehtab Abbasi Lashes Out At Party, Set To Quit Ranks
PML-N leader Mehtab Abbasi on Wednesday lashed out at his own party, saying the top cadre will have to reveal 'how they came to power' in the first place.

Mehtab – who has served as the former governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa – said that the parties currently in the parliament were incapable of representing the House.

"All parties are enjoying the perks of being in the power," he said and added, "the reins of the PML-N is currently in the hands of those who are using it to make money."

He further said that those who were with the dictators in the past are currently holding top posts in the party.

The provincial leadership of the ruling party has brought it to the brink. "The beneficiaries of the current policies are responsible for the mess, not the people."

Abbasi pointed at rampant corruption, and referred to the Transparency International's report enlisting Pakistan as one of the most corrupt states last year.

The senior leader has been reported to have developed differences with the top cadre, and would soon part ways with the party.

‘Arrogant lot’

Meanwhile, talking to anchorperson Talat Hussain, Abbasi aimed his criticism at the "arrogant" lot and "bootlickers" in the party.

“Such people have destroyed party's philosophy and distorted its identity,” he said when asked what he meant by arrogant people. “Gone are the days when the members were able to speak freely at internal forums.”

The senior leader lamented that the “professionals” in the ranks had restricted the PML-N to Punjab.

Last week, PML-N stalwart Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that Maryam, daughter of the party supremo Nawaz Sharif, needs “space”, after assuming her new role as the senior vice-president.

“I have stepped down from my post but I stand by the party and will always be a part of it,” he told media persons in Islamabad.

She “needs space”, Abbasi said, suggesting that the previous hierarchy would’ve given rise to a difference of opinion, , which, he said, wasn’t “suitable for anyone.”

On Feb 1, the senior party leader said it wasn’t appropriate for him to share the same party rank once Maryam was elevated to the post.

It was also reported earlier that the top leadership was uneasy at the new role granted to Nawaz Sharif’s daughter.

According to a notification issued at the time, Maryam became the second-most leader of the party after Shehbaz Sharif, party president and the incumbent prime minister of the country.

Sources said at the time that the top cadre wasn’t taken into confidence on the aforesaid decision, and that several members were uneasy about it.
