Former President General (R.) Pervez Musharraf claimed that Nawaz Sharif was begging him to let him leave the country (baahir bhejnay ke liay minnatein kartay rahay), but that it was refused. The ex-strongman also commented on those who asked for accountability for him (mujh se hisaab maangtay hein). According to Daily Dunya (14 May 2018), Musharraf stated that he received 2 crore (20,000,000) rupees for delivering a lecture.

According to Daily Dunya (14 May 2018), analyst Haroon-ur-Rasheed claimed that Nawaz Sharif was now disqualified and so his statements have no value. He then went on to claim that he ought to be tried in a special court and hanged.


MQM historiography


Leaders of the MQM were quoted by Daily Jang (14 May 2018) as saying that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was an infant (nau-maulood) in politics and that he had been taught an incorrect history of Pakistan, its leaders and its political parties – which he then incorporates in his speeches.

The leader of the Awami Raj Party Jamshed Dasti was quoted by Daily Jang (14 May 2018) as saying that Nawaz Sharif wanted a bloody revolution (khooni inquilab) in the country. Meanwhile, Sheikh Rasheed was quoted as expressing his opinion that Pakistan and Nawaz Sharif cannot go together, and that he saw the two Sharif brothers as Mir Jafar and Mir Sadiq.

Daily Jang (14 May 2018) reported that on the orders of the Chief Justice, some 36 check-posts were removed from the vicinity of the residence of the Inspector General of Police, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

According to Daily Jang (14 May 2018), MMA leader Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman opined that those who are loyal to the West (Maghrib ke wafadar) were very worried about the alliance of religious parties. He further stated that the MMA totally rejected (jootay ki nowk pe rakhtay hein) the legislation protecting the rights of transgender people and the option of changing one’s gender.


Healing process?


According to Daily Dunya (16 May 2018), a (fake) faith-healer (pir) promised the occupants of a home in Kamoke to rid the place of malignant spirits and double their wealth. He then put them to sleep by offering them drugged milk, and proceeded to steal cash, jewellery and household items. With the husband, wife and three children unconscious, he then made good his escape.


Better late than never?


Daily Express (18 May 2018) reported that Tahir-ul-Qadri expressed his view that Nawaz Sharif was a national, moral and political criminal (qaumi, ikhlaqi aur siyasi mujrim). He stated that PML-N parliamentarians, officeholders and workers still had an opportunity to prove their loyalty to the Pakistani state and dissociate themselves from Sharif, since he had registered his name among those who wish ill upon the country by making accusations against it.

Daily Express (20 May 2018) informed its readers that Imran Khan’s devastating bowling led to 100 wickets falling from other political parties. This, according to the publication, meant that he had succeeded in creating an aura of victory around himself.

It was reported by Daily Nawa-i-Waqt (20 May 2018) that during a session of the Sindh Assembly, Nusrat Sehar Abbasi of the PML-F raised a shoe at Deputy Speaker Shehla Raza – leading to pandemonium in the legislative house. Nusrat Sehar removed her shoe and showed it to Shehla Raza after an argument between parties over the budget. The Deputy Speaker was quoted as saying that Nusrat Sehar Abbasi’s action was not a mistake but a crime. She also turned the PML-F legislator our of the assembly.
