'Unacceptable': ISPR Censures Imran Over Allegations Against Army Officer
The Inter-Services Public Relations has censured PTI chairman Imran Khan over his "baseless allegations" against an officer.

"Chairman PTI has levelled highly irresponsible and baseless allegations against a serving senior military officer without any evidence," the military's media wing said in its statement, on Monday.

According to the ISPR, these fabricated and malicious allegations are extremely unfortunate, deplorable and unacceptable.

The communiqué noted a "consistent pattern for last one year wherein military and intelligence agencies officials are targeted with insinuations and sensational propaganda for the furtherance of political objectives."

The military's media wing asked the political leader concerned to make a recourse to legal avenues and stop making false allegations.

"The institution reserves the right to take legal course of action against patently false and mala fide statements and propaganda," the statement concluded.

Earlier, the former premier alleged that army officer Major General Faisal Naseer was involved in the murder of journalist Arshad Sharif.

While addressing a rally in Lahore, Khan said, “Major General Faisal Naseer tried to kill me twice. He is also involved in the killing of journalist Arshad Sharif. He also stripped my party senator, Azam Swati, naked and inflicted severe torture on him.”

It is pertinent to mention here that journalist Arshad Sharif was killed in Kenya last October as he fled the country, citing threats to his life.

Khan had earlier accused Major General Faisal Naseer, along with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, of an assassination attempt on his life in November last year in Wazirabad, where he allegedly received three bullets in his leg.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan Peoples Party co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari, and Punjab caretaker CM Mohsin Naqvi condemned the allegations against the army.

“Making allegations against Major General Faisal Naseer and members of our intelligence agency without any supporting evidence is not acceptable and will not be tolerated,” he added.
