US President Joe Biden has offered a three-day cease-fire as a viable method of securing the release of hostages held by Hamas, said Axios, citing two US and Israeli sources.
According to Axios, Biden stated this during a phone chat with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday.
According to Axios, talks are underway between the US, Israel, and Qatar over a potential arrangement that would require Hamas to free a group of 10 to fifteen captives. During the ceasefire, the identities of the captives would be verified, and a full list of names would be compiled.
Meanwhile, the White House said in a statement on Monday that Biden and Netanyahu discussed "tactical pauses" to allow civilians to leave areas impacted by the ongoing fighting. According to the White House, these pauses would also try to facilitate the smooth delivery of humanitarian aid to people in desperate need while also examining the prospect of assisting the release of captives.
The White House has yet to respond officially to the Axios article.
