A court in Lahore has ordered the arrest of actress Saba Qamar and singer Bilal Saeed for failing to appear before judicial authorities after being told to do so. The arrest warrants were issued by Judicial Magistrate Javeria Bhatti.
The two had come under fire from religious hardliners, after a clip from the music video that they were shooting at Lahore's Wazir Khan Mosque went viral. The outrage, especially on social media, resulted in an FIR being filed against them by police under Section 295 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), which deals with ‘offences relating to religion.' They stand accused of violating the sanctity of a place of worship through their actions.
Bilal Saeed had issued an apology while Saba Qamar had taken to Twitter to explain how the incident was being portrayed out of context. The Punjab Auqaf Department had suspended the manager of the mosque after Chief Minister Usman Buzdar took notice of the issue.
