A three-day Kalash Ice & Snow Festival concluded in the Bomburit Valley on Thursday, drawing scores of local and foreign tourists to the site.
The participants enjoyed the winter sports tournament, as more than 200 boys and girls were trained in snow skiing and other snow sports on the occasion.
The festival was organised by Hindukush Snow Sports Club, bringing more colours to the scenic valley.
The sports included ice hockey, snow skiing, kabaddi, and one-legged race, with mostly boys and girls as participants, especially from upper Chitral. They said it was one of the finest skiing experience for them.
According to the locals, such activities could promote winter tourism and bring a positive impact for the economy.
Expressing his views, Prince Muhammad Hishamul Mulk, President of the Hindukush Snow Sports Club, thanked the government and non-government organisations for their cooperation.
He expressed optimism that the event will promote winter tourism in the area. He especially thanked the SRSP, District Administration, TMA Chitral, ARSP, and Global Affairs Canada, and others for their role in this regard.
Nader Gul Barich, Chief Operating Officer, PPAF Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund said that snow events will provide employment opportunities to the people and improve the country's economic conditions.
Furthermore, officials of the district administration assured that in the coming years, the festival will be celebrated in a more organised and better manner. "We will celebrate it in an even better way."
The regional organisers hoped that the festival will boost businesses that witness a decline during winters.
District Sports Officer, Lower Chitral described the games as useful for sportsmen and youth. He said that sitting idle at home invites health-related issues, even for youth, so they need to be physically active.
The days to come may see a further boost in winter sports as youth are provided with the opportunities that they deserve.
