'PTI Still Has Support Of A Part Of Establishment'
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and its leader are getting some relief from the courts and this indicates that they still have support from a part of the establishment.

In this scenario, establishment's oft-quoted claims of neutrality don't seem to be true, Mubashir Bukhari said.

The analyst told Khabar Say Aagay host Raza Rumi that if Imran Khan isn't planning to contest elections, he should be the first to volunteer for an arrest.

On the appointments of the SAPMs, Bukhari said that the ruling party seems worried and so it has opted for appointing 'electables' to secure a win in the fast-approaching polls.

Analyst Murtaza Solangi pointed out that the president, constitutionally, can't hand directions to the ECP or question them for their actions.

Earlier today, President Dr Arif Alvi urged the Election Commission to ‘immediately announce’ a date for elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab to put an end to the ‘dangerous speculative propaganda’.

In his letter to CEC Sikandar Sultan Raja, he stressed that the elections are to be held within 90 days of dissolution of an assembly, as provided under Article 224(2) of the Constitution.

The conduct and holding of the polls, he maintained, is the primary and essential duty of the authority.

It was reported a day earlier that the elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will likely be held in Oct-Nov alongside National Assembly polls, as per an agreement between the coalition partners.

Coalition partners are unanimous on holding general elections in the national and provincial assemblies together, probably in Oct-Nov this year, Dawn said quoting a reliable source in the federal government.

It referred to a key meeting between Punjab and KP governors, also attended by caretaker Punjab CM, wherein the participants agreed to hold elections together, given the ‘current circumstances’.

Economic woes

Asad Ejaz Butt said Pakistan still hasn't received a crucial memo by the IMF because the lender wants an assurance, not verbal promises.

The delegation wants to return before it sends the memo as it wants to see if the country proceeds to act on its promises.

But the worrying factor to this is that the team's return without an approval would rather mean a refusal.
