National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Director-General Shehzad Saleem has sent a Rs100 million defamation notice to Tayyaba Gul, who had accused the former NAB chief of sexually harassing her.
Earlier, Gul, who was allegedly a part of the video leak controversy involving former NAB chairperson Justice (r) Javed Iqbal, had appeared before the Public Accounts Committee and said: “I met Iqbal during a meeting regarding missing persons. My number was written on the request filed for the missing person, and he [Iqbal] kept calling me time and again … I recorded Iqbal because he was a very powerful official and I wanted to expose him.”
She had said that Iqbal had filed a Rs20 million reference against her. “I was not issued a call-up notice nor was an inquiry conducted,” she had further said, adding that she was arrested by the officials of NAB Lahore after she had an argument with Iqbal over the phone.
She had also alleged that the NAB Lahore DG had stripped her naked and filmed her before blackmailing Iqbal with the video.
In a statement today, Shehzad said that his audio was "misused" as his call was stealthily recorded, adding that whatever action was taken against Gul was "in accordance with the law".
He said that NAB Lahore had received complaints against Gul. "She was the plaintiff in one case and the accused in another case," he added.
Moreover, NAB spokesperson Nawazish Ali also said that he "never met Gul" and that she tried to "misrepresent" him.
