Long before cars were introduced in the Subcontinent, the only means of transportation were via tongas. The use of private transportation was very much a colonial construct and upheld by the wealthy. The masses, the huge throngs of people who moved from homes to areas of work, travelling between various cities, all used public transport.
Anoushey Ashraf certainly belongs to the privileged segment who have the luxury of using their own vehicles so it seems she's never really appreciated how public transport is actually a norm of those who are not part of her world. Maybe it would have been better had she asked for public transport to be made safer for women and children?
