A woman employed by the Bank of Punjab in Faisalabad was shot and killed by a senior colleague.
A statement issued by the bank, which is circulating on social media, says the incident took place near the Sadhar Jhang Road branch, where branch manager Mansoor Ali shot a customer service officer, Ms Alia Javaid. The woman died on the spot.
The BOP statement says the “motive behind the gory incident and the underlying facts” are being investigated.
Meanwhile, BOP has terminated the suspect Mansoor Ali as “that’s the minimum action we could take on this gruesome matter.”
The statement says all staff members were shocked and devastated by the incident.
“We must draw lessons from such incidents, the most important one being that all staff members are advised to report any deviation in normal behaviour, any incidence of micro-aggression or harassment, or any unusual pattern in the manner of our colleagues around us.”
The incident took place on Friday, where the bank manager gunned down his female colleague. He later told police that she was “blackmailing” him, using some private videos.
The bank manager, in his confessional statement, said that the victim was his friend and was blackmailing him through some of his videos.
“She threatened to send the videos to my wife and I had issued multiple warnings to her over blackmailing attempts previously,” he claimed.
The bank staffers, who witnessed the entire incident, told police that Mansoor and Alia got engaged in a verbal fight before the former took out a gun and shot her.
Police said the victim was a mother of three children and used to work at the bank. “We have handed over her body to the relatives and are further investigating the matter,” they said.
