Daily Covid Cases In Pakistan Drop To 3-Digit Mark After 3 Months

Pakistan reported less than 1,000 daily coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours for the first time in over three months.


According to the data released by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Friday, Pakistan reported 912 cases after 45,619 tests were taken. The country last recorded a daily case count below 1,000 on July 6 at 830 cases.


Another 26 people, meanwhile, lost their lives to the virus in the last 24 hours, pushing the death toll to 28,058. The positivity rate, too, dipped below 2% for the first time since June 29, which is more than three months ago. The current positivity rate is 1.99%.


According to the NCOC, the total number of cases has reached 1,256,233. In addition to this, 1,633 patients have recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours across the country, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,184,527, while the number of active cases has fallen to 43,648.


Punjab recorded 393 Covid cases and 13 more deaths due to the virus during the past 24 hours. According to provincial health secretary Imran Sikandar Baloch, four deaths were reported from Lahore during the period.


He said that active cases in Punjab now total 14,183, adding that the tally of the positive cases in the province stood at 435,054. The official further stated that the total number of deaths due to the virus is currently at the 12,754 mark. The health secretary said that some 408,117 patients have recovered from the disease so far.


“As many as 21,261 tests were conducted in Punjab in the past 24 hours, totaling 7,514,629 tests,” he added. The official informed that the positivity ratio in the province is currently at 1.8 per cent, adding specific SOPs have been issued for various sectors. He urged the public to take strict precautions and get vaccinated, terming it the only and effective solution against the virus.


At least nine more patients succumbed to coronavirus in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa during the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 5,632. According to health officials, 226 more cases emerged in the province as the tally jumped to 175,584. They further said that 371 patients recovered overnight, lifting the total to 166,236.


At least 29 more people contracted coronavirus in Balochistan during the past 24 hours, taking the tally to 32,088. According to health officials, no deaths were reported in the province. So far 349 patients have succumbed to the deadly virus. As many as 31,568 patients have recovered from the disease in the province so far.
