BNP Leaders, Others ‘Picked Up’ For Organizing Rally In Taunsa Sharif, Says HRCP

Several organizers and participants of a peaceful rally in Taunsa Sharif have been ‘picked up’ from their homes by the authorities, said the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) on Wednesday.

Balochistan National Party (BNP) leader Zulfiqar Baloch and activists Rasool Bakhsh Shahwani Buzdar and Aslam Buzdar are also among those taken into custody.

While condemning the incident, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) said on X, formerly known as Twitter, “Given that the rally expressed solidarity with the ongoing Baloch camp against enforced disappearances—itself subjected to a violent police crackdown—such actions indicate an overt attempt to suppress peaceful assembly.”

“HRCP demands a swift investigation into the abductions of the rally's organizers and participants and cautions the state against suppressing citizens' fundamental rights through forceful or extrajudicial tactics,” the HRCP stated.
