Banned terror organisation Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has decided to extend the ceasefire between itself and the Pakistan Army, that was declared on account of Eid-ul-Fitr, for another five days.
An order by the militant group stated that the ceasefire will continue till May 15th.
The announcement came via an order issued by the TTP military commission. Officials of the TTP warned its members to refrain from any fighting and avoid any skirmishes during the days of the ceasefire.
As per the order, the ceasefire is to last till May 15, after which new directives will be issued on May 16.
The Taliban had reached a truce with the Pakistan Army on account of Eid-ul-Fitr, and had agreed to a 10-day ceasefire. The details of this truce haven't been revealed by either group, but the extension of the ceasefire was attributed to the TTP.
Previously, the army had given a deadline to the Mehsud tribe of Waziristan to evacuate the area so that they could conduct an operation.
On May 7th, hours after the army's deadline had expired, the Mehsud tribe formed a grand jirga of 35 members to broker talks between the TTP and the Pakistan Army.
At the jirga, they said: “We want peace in Waziristan and we will play the role of a negotiator between Pakistan Army and the TTP.”
They urged both sides not to take any negative action, saying that they do not want the blood of any Pakistani Army soldiers, TTP members or civillians to be shed. "We do not want any more mischief in the region. The struggle will continue till peace is acquired," they said.
