Adding to the list of brilliant Pakistani women who are a source of pride for their country, endocrinologist Dr Tasnim Ahsan has become the first Pakistani to be awarded the Endocrine Society's prestigious Laureate Award for 2023.
The award is handed out to 12 medical experts each year, and Karachi-based Dr Tasnim Ahsan was one of the 12 recipients honored with it in recognition of her exceptional service to the field of endocrinology. She was selected for the 'International Excellence in Endocrinology' award, for her contributions to the field.
Dr Tasnim is a graduate of Dow Medical College in Karachi, and she did her postgraduate training in the United Kingdom. She initially worked at Dow Medical College, and later at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for 25 years, during which she established the sub-specialties of Endocrinology and Rheumatology in her department.
She retired from JPMC in 2015 as the executive director and Head of Department of Medicine, and since then has been a professor emeritus at the institute. She was also the founding dean of the Medicell Institute of Diabetes Endocrinology & Metabolism, as well as a founding member of the Pakistan Endocrine Society.
Dr Tasnim is internationally renowned for her work and has mentored over 100 Internists and continues to supervise specialist training in Endocrinology & Diabetes. Currently she is the Secretary of the Faculty of Endocrinology at College of Physicians & Surgeons.
