Nobel laureate girls rights activist Malala Yousufzai has called on the Taliban to guarantee protection of women and girls' rights in Afghanistan, saying that statements will not be enough.
She expressed these views while addressing the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting on the situation in Afghanistan. She spoke about the need to protect girls' right to education in Afghanistan.
Malala reminded that international human rights laws ensure right to education for women, adding that this right is not only for individuals. She said that girls' education needs to be protected for the peace and stability of the country.
Malala also reminded the UN of its commitment to protecting the dignity of the human person.
Further, Malala informed the UNSC that after the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan, secondary schools have closed and teachers and students have been asked to wait at home. "Female teachers are not allowed to teach boys," she said.
