AJK PM Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Disqualified For Contempt Of Court
In a severe blow to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) High Court has disqualified Azad Kashmir Prime Minister (PM) Sardar Tanveer Ilyas for contempt of court.

Sardar Ilyas was called before the supreme court and high court of AJK for employing a "threatening tone" in one of his remarks, which led to the high court's ruling.

Ilyas had previously been before the high court, where PTI supporters had greeted him.

Justice Sadaqat Hussain Raja presided over a full bench during the case hearing. Ilyas was included in the videos that were presented throughout the hearing.

"I regret wholeheartedly if any of my statements have wounded the judge," AJK PM Ilyas said in a statement to the court.

The AJK premier was sentenced until the rising of the court.

Ilyas was called into court today after the AJK High Court's entire bench issued a contempt notice in response to his remarks during a public gathering.

The decision was made in a meeting of the judges when the matter was reviewed in great detail and it was highlighted that the prime minister's entire conduct was contemptuous, according to an order issued by a two-member bench based on a newspaper clipping describing the prime minister's remarks.

The AJK prime minister has been given the notice to appear in person before the court today and defend his position. The high court registrar was instructed to send the summons to the prime minister through his principal secretary. The matter was to be scheduled before the full bench, per the registrar's directive.

Sardar Tanveer Ilyas had blasted court-issued stay orders the day before and claimed that the practice was having an impact on how well the government was performing. He said that although the stay orders were only temporary and needed to be decided quickly, they continued for years.
