DNA report has revealed that clothing samples found on Dr. Noshreen Kazmi, a medical student at Chandika Medical College in Larkana, Sindh who allegedly committed suicide in November 2021, match the samples found on Dr. Nimrata Kumrati, another medical student studying at the same college who was killed in 2019.
Jamshoro Forensic and Molecular Laboratory released the lab report on Friday. It is a breakthrough in both cases in which friends and relatives had suspected foul play. Both families claimed that the women had been victims of blackmail before their deaths.
Dr Namrita was a Pakistani Hindu medical student in her final year at Chandika Medical College. In 2019, she was found dead in her hostel room under mysterious circumstances. It was later revealed that Dr Namrita had been raped before her death, which police ruled as a murder.
In November 2021, almost two years later, Dr Nosheen, who was also in her final year at Chandika Medical College, was found hanging from the ceiling of her hostel room, with her feet almost touching her desk. Due to the unlikely position of her body, Dr Nosheen's family and fellow students had refused to accept that she had committed suicide.
The lab report released Friday suggests that the same man likely raped and killed both Dr Namrita and Dr Nosheen.
The disturbing revelation comes on the heels of allegations from Parveen Rind, a medical student at the People’s University of Medical and Health Sciences For Women (PUMHSW), who claimed that varsity officials at her hostel were trying to kill her through repeated harassment and torture, and had killed women in the past.
Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho has ordered an investigation into Parveen's allegations, and police have also begun their own investigations.
