Another disturbing occurrence occurred in the Uttrakhand region of Haldwani, when supporters of the BJP were responsible for setting fire to a mosque, claiming that it was illegally built.
Following this act of violence, two people died and nearly 100 were wounded. The situation erupted into rioting, with stone-throwing and damage to multiple vehicles.
Responding to the pandemonium, the district magistrate issued a curfew in the region, citing public safety concerns. Furthermore, the Modi administration issued rules authorizing the use of deadly force against anyone who incites disturbance.
