In an interview with Hamid Mir on Geo News, Major (retired) Khurram Hameed Khan Rokhri has claimed that he met senior intelligence official Maj Gen Faisal Naseer to mediate between Imran Khan and the establishment.
The retired major of Pakistan Army said that he had quit his role of a mediator between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the military due to the party’s smear campaign in the midst of the crucial negotiations.
“A day after the Wazirabad incident, Salman Ahmed asked me to be a part of yet another meeting but I refused that,” said Major (retd) Khurram Hameed while talking to Hamid Mir during program Capital Talk.
“Every meeting followed a controversial statement [to media],” he said, adding the talks began after the Shehbaz Gill incident.
According to the ex-officer, he held three meetings with Maj Gen Faisal Naseer, adding Ahmed was part of the third meeting.
He revealed that Imran wanted him to confront Maj Gen Faisal after he was told that he was on an agenda.
“We were told at Bani Gala that Maj Gen Faisal had been appointed to eliminate PTI and Imran Khan’s narrative.” Major (retd) Khurram added that he knew Maj Gen Faisal really well. Gen Naseer was a “principled” and “professional man” who would never “trade his dignity to please someone”, added Rokhri.
He lamented at the role of President Arif Alvi, saying it was his job to ensure that the PTI honoured its commitments.
To a question, the ex-officer confirmed that Faisal Vawda was also involved in the efforts to make the talks a success.
