Abid Sher Ali’s challenge


Abid Sher Ali, according to Daily Dunya (25 March 2019), claimed that PM Imran Khan owns three companies in the US (be-nami companiaan banaein) and that he owns 4 luxury apartments in the US, 3 in the UK and 12 in the UAE. He further challenged the PM and Aleema Khan to come and face him in a debate over what he claimed was their ill-gotten wealth (munazira karein) – and that he would defend his position on all forums.


Dissent?


Daily Jang (25 March 2019) reported that a leader of the Janata Dal, Shivalinge Gowda, has called on people to slap those seeking votes for PM Narendra Modi or chanting slogans in favour of him.


Tragedy, quoth he


The PML-N’s Rana Sanaullah was quoted by Daily Jang (25 March 2019) as saying that the Jewish lobby was losing sleep over the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and that it was a tragedy for Imran Khan to become Prime Minister of a nuclear power like Pakistan.


Guns galore


It was reported by Daily Express (26 March 2019) that authorities in Punjab have formed a fact-finding committee to assess the validity of hundreds of thousands of firearms licenses after it was found that thousands of licenses were fraudulently issued.


Modiplomacy


According to Daily Jang (26 March 2019), the administration of PM Narendra Modi did not allow Malaysia’s PM Mahathir Mohamad permission to fly through Indian airspace on the latter’s journey to Pakistan. The resulting detour took the Malaysian leader all the way to Amman, Jordan, before he could arrive in Islamabad.


Musharraf’s theory


Daily Dunya (27 March 2019) quoted former President Gen (R.) Pervez Musharraf as expressing his view that India itself carries out attacks like those at Mumbai or Pulwama, and then after the attacks, has a pretext to blame Pakistan.


Child’s play?


Chaudhry Shujaat, according to Daily Jang (27 March 2019), expressed his view that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is still a child. Shujaat further opined that Bilawal had played with toy trains in his early years and was now leading a Train March.


Second chance?


Daily Jang (27 March 2019) reported that former provincial minister Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chohan had met the Governor of Punjab, expressing his desire to serve in another ministry (wazarat e baldiyat).


Not yet


According to Daily Dunya (28 March 2019), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari claimed that the government would find out what protest and politics are all about when the PPP issued a call for a Long March or a Train March. The PPP leader assured PM Imran Khan that he need not worry, since the current protests were not aimed at toppling the government.


Impostors


Daily Express (31 March 2019) reported that three men entered the home of a citizen in Lahore’s Garden Town area – one claiming to be a senior official from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the others claiming to be law enforcement operatives. They proceeded to harass the family members and threaten them with dire consequences until the citizen returned home – at which point they fled in their cars. Police have lodged a case against the fugitives.
