CJP Bandial Summons JCP Meeting On April 13
To discuss the confirmation of Justice Musarrat Hilali as the regular chief justice of the Peshawar High Court (PHC), Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial has called a meeting of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) on Thursday, April 13.

Since April 1, 2023, Justice Hilali has been serving as the PHC's acting chief justice.

The meeting of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan, which will be presided over by CJP Bandial, will include four of the Supreme Court's most senior judges, a former judge, the federal law minister, the country's attorney general, a senior lawyer chosen by the Pakistan Bar Council, and a representative from each of the provincial and Islamabad bar councils.

The Parliamentary Committee on Appointment of Judges in Superior Courts would be presented with the name of the Peshawar High Court Chief Justice after confirmation.

It is pertinent to mention here that the development comes after Chief Justice of Pakistan Bandial and Justice Qazi Faez Isa held a meeting, which took place in a "pleasant atmosphere."

According to the sources, the conversation covered topics pertaining to the Supreme Court, and Justice Isa also brought up his attendance at the special National Assembly session.

The meeting is significant because there appears to be a rift in the Supreme Court, as evidenced by the fact that various judges have expressed conflicting views over matters involving the elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The Supreme Court's two most senior justices, Justice Isa and Justice Sardar Tariq Masood, requested in a letter sent earlier this month that the CJP convene a JCP meeting to look into the accusations made against Justice Sayed Mazahar Ali Naqvi.

The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) and the Balochistan Bar Council have both filed references against Justice Sayed Mazahar Ali Naqvi, calling for his resignation.
