In W.P. No. 48196-H/2021, Mst. Shanam Dil Muhammad v District Police Officer etc., a case before J Ali Zia Bajwa, now pertaining to constitutionality of non-implementation/non-notification of the Punjab Protection of Women Against Violence Act, 2016, the notification re applicability of the Act was presented before the Court. The case had initially been filed as a habeus petition, but then converted to a WP.
The Punjab Protection of Women Against Violence Act, 2016 which had thus far only been notified in Multan, has now been notified across Punjab.
The notification has come as a result of the efforts of Lahore High Court in W.P. No. 48196-H/2021, Adv Sahar who was appointed as amicus, Adv Maria who represented the province and, FSC decision in Shariat Petition No 03/I of 2016 amongst others.
As a result of collective efforts, the Punjab Protection of Women against Violence Act 2016 has finally been notified across Punjab.
