The most-awaited eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) will commence on February 13 (tomorrow).
The cricket tournament will begin with Multan Sultans, in action with Lahore Qalandars at the Multan Cricket Stadium. Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi will also host the matches of the eighth edition of the PSL.
Karachi will host the second match of the tournament in which Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi will come face to face.
Quetta Gladiators begin their campaign in Multan on February 15 and Islamabad United play their first match of the season on February 16 in Karachi.
The remaining matches will be hosted by Lahore and Rawalpindi. Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, Pakistan’s home of cricket, will host the four playoffs and the final, besides five league stage games and Rawalpindi will stage 11 matches.
The final match of PSL 8 will be held on March 19 at the Gaddafi Stadium. The winner will not only grab the Supernova Trophy but will also collect a cheque of Rs120 million, while a cheque of Rs48 million will be awarded to the runners-up.
All six franchises have won the PSL title at least once, which indicates a higher level of competition in the tournament.
Islamabad United, the inaugural champions won the PSL title twice (the second time in 2018). Peshawar Zalmi won the 2017 edition. Quetta Gladiators won the 2019 competition. Karachi Kings won the 2020 edition. Multan Sultans won in 2021. Last year, Lahore Qalandars bagged the trophy.
Before the PSL 8 thrill kicks off, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has lined up a glittering opening ceremony in Multan where different artists including the singers of the PSL 8 anthem - Abdullah Siddiqui, Asim Azhar, Faris Shafi, and Shae Gill – will enthrall the spectators. Eminent music composer Sahir Ali Bagga and singer Aima Baig will also perform at the event.
