Yet another blast at a mosque in Afghanistan has claimed three lives and left at least 15 people injured. The incident took place during Friday prayers in the Nangarhar province of Afghanistan, as per Taliban officials.
Nangarhar has had significant presence of Islamic State (IS), according to media reports. However, no group has so far claimed responsibility for the latest attack.
A Taliban official was quoted by AFP as confirming that the blast took place during Friday prayers in Spin Ghar district of the eastern province. The explosive device was hidden near the imam's rostrum, in a loudspeaker. The bomb detonated when the speaker was switched on.
The IS-Khorasan first surfaced in Nangarhar and was subsequently recognised by the terror group's central leadership.
Earlier this month, gunmen allegedly from the Islamic State group attacked the Sardar Mohammed Daud Khan hospital in Kabul, killing at least 25 people and wounding more than 50. The attacks on Afghanistan’s biggest military hospital were preceded by two explosions. Senior Taliban commander Mawlawi Hamdullah Mukhlis was among those who lost their lives in the attack.
In October, a powerful blast targeted worshipers inside a mosque rocked the Kandahar city of Afghanistan during Friday prayers. At least 16 people were killed in the attack.
