Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that all stakeholders are on the same page over the matter of appointment of the new Director General of the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), adding that the issue was being given a 'wrong spin' by the media.
The prime minister expressed these views while addressing a meeting of the federal cabinet on Tuesday. During the meeting, the issue pertaining to the new ISI chief's appointment was also discussed. According to reports, the prime minister took the cabinet members on board over the matter.
PM Khan reportedly assured the cabinet that the parties concerned were on the same page and the issue would be resolved amicably'.
Earlier, senior journalist and TFT editor in chief Najam Sethi had claimed that Prime Minister Imran Khan has told the military that he was not on board with the decision to change the Director General of Inter Services Intelligence (ISI). He is of the opinion that the announcement about Lt Gen Faiz Hameed’s posting as Peshawar Corps Commander and General Nadeem Anjum’s appointment as the new DG ISI should have come from the Prime Minister house because as per usual, Prime Minister appoints the DG ISI.
That the press release announcing the same came from Rawalpindi not Islamabad was fishy, Sethi said, while speaking on Khabar se Aagay on Naya Daur TV.
However, the latest reports indicated that the parties have resolved the issue and the notification from the PM office would be issued soon.
