The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s social media activist Dr Zulqarnain on Saturday admitted that he ran a fake account with the name of Umme Hareem to spread hateful propaganda against the Pakistan Army.
In a video message, Zulqarnain, who belongs to Bahawalpur, apologised for his anti-army posts on social media and said that he spread hateful propaganda at the request of the party.
He also urged people to avoid believing in anti-national narratives made by political leaders.
Another PTI activist, Muhammad Muneeb Kiyani, also confessed in a video message last week that he was involved in a campaign on social media against Pakistan Army soldiers.
Last week, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military's media wing, said that a “regretful social media campaign” following the August 1 helicopter crash had left the armed forces rankled.
The ISPR said in a statement that the military and kin of those martyred have been left deeply anguished and distressed. “The nation is standing behind the institution in this difficult time. But certain insensitive quarters have resorted to hurtful and derogatory comments on social media which is unacceptable and highly condemnable."
