National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has been asked by Farhatullah Babar, the secretary general of his own party, to issue production orders for incarcerated MNA Ali Wazir — who has been imprisoned for over 17 months on charges of making anti-state speeches.
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Secretary General and former senator Farhatullah Babar in a tweet on Saturday urged the NA speaker to issue the production order for Wazir, saying that this had always been a demand during the PPP's time as the opposition.

He reminded Ashraf that Foreign Minister and PPP Co-Chair Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari had even penned a letter to former speaker Asad Qaiser, who had also exhibited similar inaction in issuing orders for the production of Ali Wazir.
The former senator said that there was no reason or explanation that sufficiently justified the delay in the issuance of the production order.
Wazir, who was still incarcerated during the time before the vote of no confidence against former prime minister Imran Khan, was allowed to take part in the no-confidence proceedings on parole. However, although he is on the treasury bench, he was not present at the budget session at the national assembly, according to a tweet retweeted by Farhatullah Babar.

Ali Wazir was arrested on December 16, 2020 in Peshawar on account of allegedly making anti-state speeches against the Pakistani state. He was brought to Karachi and subsequently jailed in the Karachi Central Jail since December 31, 2020.
Wazir was involved in at least three separate sedition cases registered against him in Karachi and a similar case registered against him in Miran Shah, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Most recently, Wazir was 'arrested' again in May, while still incarcerated, over a case that was registered in 2018, and had reportedly been sealed off since.
