The infection occurs when Naegleria-contaminated water enters the nasal passages and reaches the brain. Activities such as diving, jumping, or splashing in warm freshwater can lead to the entry of water containing Naegleria into the nasal cavity. Once inside, the amoeba migrates through the olfactory nerves to the brain, causing a severe infection known as primary amebic meningoencephalitis (PAM).

In recent years, Karachi, the bustling metropolis of Pakistan, has been grappling with a concerning rise in Naegleria cases.
