Friends of Noor Mukadam, the slain daughter of former Pakistani diplomat Shaukat Mukadam, staged a demonstration outside the Islamabad High Court (IHC), calling on the authorities to serve justice.
The protest was held on the occasion of hearing of the post-arrest bail petitions of prime accused Zahir Jaffer's parents. The protestors requested the court not to grant bail to Zahir' parents, saying that they were complicit in the murder.
Hearing the petitions filed by the prime accused's parents, Zakir Jaffer and Asmat Adamjee, Justice Amer Farooq issued notices to authorities concerned. The hearing was then adjourned the till Sep 15.
Justice Farooq also ordered Advocate Shah Khawar, the counsel for Noor's family, to submit a power of attorney, which he assured the court he would. The lawyer reminded the court that the bail cancellation pleas for TherapyWorks was also pending. To this, Justice Farooq said that those petitions would be heard separately, adding that the rules for bail approval and cancellations were different.
Backstory
Last month, Noor Mukadam's father filed an application in the Islamabad High Court (IHC), demanding cancellation of the bail granted to the Therapy Works CEO and five other workers in his daughter’s case.
The development came three days after a session court had granted bail to six employees of Therapy Works including its CEO Tahir Zahoor. They were initially arrested on charges of concealing evidence.
In his application, Shoukat Mukadam had said that the officials of Therapy Works were present at the time of the murder. He maintained that the sessions court had ignored the rules set by the Supreme Court while giving bail to the six accused.
Further, Shaukat Mukadam accused the Therapy Works CEO and its other employees of threatening him. He said that they hid evidence, requesting the court to cancel the sessions court’s orders granting bail to the suspects.
