Ranbir Kapoor's Brahmastra raked in INR2,120 million over its opening weekend to register the highest gross worldwide over the 9-11 weekend.
Only two Indian films: Master and RRR have achieved this feat earlier. Both the films are in Tamil and Telugu respectively. The Brahmastra figures were presented by American box office tracker Box Office Mojo.
Dharma Productions, the makers of the magnum opus, claimed the film had minted INR2,250 million worldwide over the weekend. The company posted an Instagram reel claiming the same on Monday.
Bhrahmastra is enjoying a stellar run at the box office. The Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt film, helmed over years, opened to a record-breaking collection of INR750 million on its opening day, according to an official announcement. The figures catapulted the Dharma film as the biggest non-holiday opener for a Bollywood film (in India).
The film, which also stars Mouni Roy, Amitabh Bachchan and Nagarjuna in pivotal roles, was targeted by the now infamous boycott Bollywood brigade in the run up to its release. A dated statement by Ranbir on how he relished beef was circulated to lend ‘credence’ to the campaign. Wife Alia’s “…if you do not like me, do not watch me…” comeback has also been employed as “ammo”.
Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut separately claimed that Dharma proprietor Karan Johar plants reviews and creates fake bookings to promote his films. The Fashion star also accused Karan of begging south directors to promote his film Brahmastra. She also criticised the film starring Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Mouni Roy, and Nagarjuna Akkineni saying director Ayan Mukerji had “burnt 600 crores to ashes”.
