JUI-F Announces ‘Million March’ From June 1

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman voiced concerns on Monday about the 'diminishing significance' of Parliament and announced plans to launch a movement in response.

Speaking to the media at Jamia Ubaidia, Maulana Fazlur Rahman lamented the lack of attention paid to the implementation of the Constitution.

Rehman stated at the news conference, "The Parliament has lost its importance; we [JUI-F] are initiating a movement in which the public response is more than expected."

The JUI-F head declared at the press conference that a million people will begin the march on June 1 from Muzaffargarh and that those who disagree had no other choice.

He also said, "We [JUI-F] also have reservations regarding the May 9 riots, but the system will be completely destroyed if this political instability persists."

He called attention to what he described as "minority rule" and criticized the People's Party for receiving a disproportionate number of constitutional seats while not being a member of the ruling party.

Furthermore, Fazlur Rahman criticized the Election Commission for its inactivity and pushed for institutional reforms, asking legislators to consider the issues surrounding elections.
