Recently, the Pro-Vice chancellor of University of London, Professor Mary Stiansy met with the Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Shehbaz Sharif. The purpose of the meeting was to brief him about the significant contributions and accomplishments of University of London Alumni in Pakistan. Professor Stiasny was accompanied by Regional Advisor for South Asia Saad Wasim and Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, Chairman High Education Commission, Pakistan. Mr. Wasim briefed the Prime Minister about how the University of London and Alumni have transformed the Transnational Education (TNE) landscape in the country and how students in Pakistan benefit from UK’s education system.
The Meeting took place during a visit of University of London Staff to Pakistan in order to hold an Alumni Event of University of London. This event was attended by the Law Minister, Mr.Azam Nazir Tarrar as the Chief Guest and Atta Tarrar accompanied by Special Assistant to PM on Interior and Law. Prominent Speakers at the Event included Adrian Chadwick OBE, Regional Head of British Council Pakistan, Renowned Lawyers Zahir Riaz and Rahat Kaunain, Chairperson of Competition Commission Pakistan. The Regional Head of British Council Pakistan also acknowledged and appreciated the achievements of the University of London Alumni in Pakistan: Zeneb Abid, a Corporate Lawyer and Khadija Siddique, a Human Rights Advocate.
These Alumni were also recognized and awarded by British Council Pakistan in Culture & Creativity and Social Impact Categories respectively. In recognition of their renowned professional achievements, the Law Minister and Professor Mary Stiasny also awarded Zeneb Abid and Khadija Siddique with Professional Excellence Awards. Further, the Law Minister also talked about the contributions of the University of London Alumni in Pakistan and how the University of London’s Law Programmes have significantly contributed towards the legal sector in Pakistan.
The Event was also attended by the Country Director of British Council Pakistan: Mr. Amir Ramzan, Head of Chevening Scholarships from Pakistan: Miss Shahla Qayyum, Seniors Members of Pakistan Bar Council, Haroon Rashid and Hassan Pasha, Heads of Recognized Teaching Centres of University of London and Distinguished Alumni of University of London. The Representatives from University of London in attendance included: Holly Peterson, Head of Alumni Development, Alex Boughton, Head of Business Support Services and Saad Wasim: Regional Advisor South Asia to University of London.
