LHC Wants Imran In Court, Even If On Stretcher

The Lahore High Court has made PTI chairman Imran Khan LHC appearance mandatory for a hearing, be it on a 'stretcher or an ambulance', as the former premier sought a protective bail.

The court issued the remarks on Imran Khan LHC appearance in the case pertaining to a protest outside the ECP after the decision in the Toshakhana reference, on Wednesday.

According to the learned court, the bail cannot be granted to Imran Khan until he appears in the court.

During the hearing, the counsel arguing that Imran Khan LHC appearance wasn't possible said, “It is difficult [for Imran] to walk around, as per his medical report."

Insisting that “Imran Khan wants to appear before the court,” he said, “The report states that Imran cannot walk for at least three weeks.”

However, Judge Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh replied, "Law is equal for everyone” and that it was imperative for the accused to appear in the court for a protective bail.

Earlier today, an ATC in Islamabad canceled PTI chairman's bail in the case During today’s hearing, the ATC rejected Imran Khan’s plea seeking an exemption from personal appearance and directed him to appear before the court till 1:30pm. Upon his failure to appear before the ATC, the court canceled his bail.

'Prohibited funding'

In a separate hearing, Islamabad High Court restrained a banking court from cancelling Imran's bail and granted him relief until Feb 22.

The decision was issued by Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani and Justice Tariq Mehmood in the prohibited funding case.

Meanwhile, at the banking court, the judge confirmed receiving the order of the IHC and postponed the hearing until Saturday. A certified copy of the IHC ruling is to be submitted with the court by Feb 18.

The banking court had rejected PTI chief's plea for exemption from appearance in the case on medical grounds.

The Federal Investigation Agency had booked PTI leaders including Imran Khan, and a bank manager in the prohibited funding case. The case was filed by the agency's commercial banking circle in Islamabad.
