Faisal Baloch, a truck driver who recently saved countless lives in Quetta by driving a burning oil tanker away from the populated area, was accorded a hero's welcome at the Prime Minister’s House where PM Shehbaz Sharif lauded him and nominated him for the Tamgha e Shujaat.
In a tweet, Salman Sufi, the head of Prime Minister’ Strategic Reforms, said that PM Shehbaz Sharif has lauded Faisal’s selfless bravery and nominated him for Tamgha e Shujaat.
Last week, a video of Faisal driving away the oil tanker had gone viral on Twitter. The video shows an oil tanker engulfed in flames speeding through a rough, leaving behind a trail of fire and smoke. In what could easily be a scene from an action movie, Faisal keeps driving the burning truck till it is no longer in a densely populated place and human lives are not at risk.
“I thought the oil tanker would explode any minute now. Every time I thought a spot would be good enough for me to park the vehicle, I would see more people passing by and would be compelled to drive even further. I thought I would die,” Faisal had said.
“Eventually, I managed to take the vehicle to a fairly isolated spot, and as the truck began to fully get enveloped by flames, I just opened the door, jumped out, and ran to the nearest motorcycle passerby.”
However, the tanker was not exploded and the people were able to water it down.
