The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday granted bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shahbaz Gill in a case registered against him for inciting public against state institutions.
Earlier, IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah presided over a hearing of the case. He remarked that half of the Pakistanis will be in jail if people are booked for using social media.
He inquired if Gill had said the words as reported in the FIR and if those words could be justified. The IHC CJ asked why political parties bring armed forces into politics.

Gill's lawyer told the court that there are many flaws in the registration of the case, adding that registration of a case by police without authority is illegal. He said that the police had not obtained permission from the federal government to file the case against his client.
Later, the court allowed Gill's request for bail against a surety bond of Rs5,000.
Previously on August 9, the Islamabad police had arrested Shahbaz Gill for allegedly inciting violence against state institutions. PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry had said that Gill was picked up by unidentified personnel in cars with missing number plates.
Following the news, PTI chairperson Imran Khan took to Twitter and said: “This is an abduction not an arrest. Can such shameful acts take place in any democracy? Political workers treated as enemies. And all to make us accept a foreign backed government of crooks.”
