Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPAs beat up Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari when he came to chair the session summoned to elect the new chief minister.
As per reports, PTI lawmakers threw lotas at Mazari and then tortured him and pulled his hair. The PTI lawmakers were protesting against dissenting members when they turned violent. The incident took place in the presence of security guards.
The deputy speaker left the assembly after the incident.
The session of the provincial assembly was to begin at 11.30 AM, but it had to be delayed after how the PTI members behaved. Before beating up Dost Mazari, the PTI lawmakers were chanting 'lota, lota' while protesting against the dissenting members of their parties who have joined the opposition.
The new chief minister could not be elected due to the ruckus in the assembly.
Pakistan Muslim League - N (PML-N) leader Ataullah Tarrar has called on the LHC chief justice to take notice of the PTI lawmakers' action.
He also vowed to stay in the assembly until voting is held. "We will wait tell 12.00 AM," the PML-N leader told media.
