Shahzad Akbar, who was former prime minister Imran Khan's adviser for accountability and interior, has been placed on the Exit Control List (ECL) by the interior ministry. Akbar had played a key role in the Panama Papers leak-related money laundering cases against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
Previously, Shahzad Akbar's name had been removed from the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) 'stop list' on the order of the Islamabad High Court (IHC). This resulted in him flying out to Dubai on April12th 2022, from where he was due to go to the United Kingdom.
Ziaul Mustafa Naseem's name has also been listed on the ECL. These names were recommended by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
At the same time, the cabinet plans to remove 22 names off the ECL and will add 10 more names to the list.
