Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan was under the impression that former Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa will facilitate his 10 years in power, and he was infuriated when this did not turn out to be the case.
In the said 10-year plan, General (retd) Faiz was envisaged as the next commander of the armed forces.
There's nothing that Gen Bajwa didn't do for Imran, including enabling his win in the 2018 elections, and now he is calling it a mistake.
The fact is, it was a well thought-out plan involving three DGs of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), said renowned journalist Iftikhar Ahmed.
While speaking during Naya Daur TV's programme Khabar Say Aagay, Ahmed said the ex-premier wanted powers similar to those of Chinese and Saudi rulers so he could deal effectively with any criticism.
He highlighted that PM Shehbaz had invited Imran to jointly develop a charter of economy, but the latter refused it on the grounds that he won't hold talks with "thieves".
The analyst ruled out any sort of consensus in the country with the incumbent PTI chairman around.
On Gen (retd) Faiz', he opined that the powerful former army officer won't wait for two years to plan for how he would launch his political career; he would make his move sooner.
Anchorperson Anber Shamsi seconded the analyst, saying Imran was the reason why the country had not achieved political stability yet.
She added that Gen Bajwa was a soft target for the ex-premier, and he was angry at him. "All his previous narratives have failed."
Flagship Naya Daur TV show Khabar Say Aagay streams Monday to Saturday at 9pm.
