Saving Energy Imperative For Pakistan’s Survival: PM Shehbaz
Under a plan in the works at the federal cabinet, a crackdown on electricity theft will be launched soon, and many private and government buildings will be encouraged to convert to solar energy for their primary consumption needs.

The national "contingency energy-saving plan" to stabilize the economy, conserve energy and cut the import bill, was prepared by finance minister Ishaq Dar. It was later approved in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday.

Information minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said the main purpose of the emergency energy saving plan was to reduce inflationary pressures on Pakistani citizens and the economy, as the prices of fuel continued to rise in the global market.

“Extraordinary measures are required to deal with the extraordinary situation so that the contingency plan would significantly reduce the import bill,” Marriyum Aurangzeb added.

As a result of the energy-saving plan, billions of dollars could be saved annually that would help stabilize the economy.

Information minister Marriyum Aurangzeb also said that every Pakistani would have to play their part in the ongoing "extraordinary" circumstances. She quoted Prime Minister Sharif as saying: “Saving energy is imperative for Pakistan’s survival.”
